taratilmay:

I spent like eight months convinced they’d actually cast Jesse Williams as Finnick “golden skin” “bronze-colored hair” “incredible sea-green eyes” Odair

anyhow I just saw that whathisface on the right is who they apparently actually cast yeah ok

for a series where there is a lot of racial ambiguity and also people who literally dye their skin pink and green and candy-colored, there are SO MANY UNNECESSARY WHITE PEOPLE in the Hunger Games movies

Oh so you think it’s “mean” to make it widely known that someone is a racist because it might make it difficult for them to be hired, etc.

wretchedoftheearth:

…because racism has never made it hard for a person of color to get a job. Racism has never led to people of color getting death threats and insults in their inbox just for not being white. Racism doesn’t affect our lives, result in psychological abuse and disadvantages. Racism doesn’t fuck up people’s lives at all, so it’s undeserved to call somebody out for being racist!

Like I’m sorry if you think what RacismSchool and others have done is wrong or mean, but you’re wrong because it’s entirely the fault of the racists and they are deserving of any of the consequences. You know they’re not making anything up in the process?

  • LoK team: Let's make a one-season cartoon based after AtLA!
  • Audience: Yes! Oh, god, YES!
  • LoK team: And let's try to make it the same scope as AtLA!
  • Audience: YEA-- Wait, didn't AtLA have multiple seasons?
  • LoK team: Yes, it did. So?
  • Audience: How can you hope to introduce anywhere near the same number of elements and sub-plots as the precedent if you only have one season to complete it?
  • LoK team: W-well...
  • Audience: And you're adding in a love triangle?
  • LoK team: A love QUADrangle!
  • Audience: You're adding in a love quadrangle and neglecting substantial character development for the majority of the characters involved?
  • LoK team: You guys like that kind of stuff! You call it 'shipping.' We saw so on our fan boards.
  • Audience: Well, yes, but the reason we ship people is because we get to know their characters and understand how well (or poorly) they would work together in a relationship with one another.
  • LoK team: ......yeah, but the hero is a female!
  • Audience: That-- what? That's not what we were saying.
  • LoK team: And you get to see the children of all of the characters from AtLA!
  • Audience: That's great! Do we get further insight to their personalities! Do we get to learn who ends up with whom?
  • LoK team: S-sort of. A bit. Uh, sometimes. There's a bad guy!
  • Audience: We saw. Why do people support him? How did he start out and get his first supporters? Why does he hate the things that he hates? How long has he been working secretly to get followers?
  • LoK team: HEY! Did we mention the love quadrangle?
  • Audience: Yeah, you did. So tell us more about the characters! How do they know each other? What makes them tick? Why are they friends? How did their parents raise them?
  • LoK team: We didn't really have time to answer all those questions, but we definitely made a love quadrangle!
  • Audience: Ah.. but... okay. Tell us more about the love quadrangle. Why are the characters attracted to one another?
  • LoK team: They like each other.
  • Audience: Yes, but why?
  • LoK team: Because that's what we wrote in the script.
  • Audience: Yes, but WHY?
  • LoK team: OH HEY WE ACTUALLY ARE GETTING MULTIPLE SEASONS
  • Audience: SWEET! So you can really step back and take the time to flesh out all of these details you've been neglecting and create a very whole and real world and very whole and real characters?
  • LoK team: Naw. We're gonna create a NEW bad guy.
  • Audience: ....but--
  • LoK team: NEW. BAD. GUY. WE ARE GENIUSES!

doodlemancy:

I have been doing a lot of this lately.

Trying to get my mom to understand my recent issues with the public speaking class and everything is like trying to teach a cat how to play fetch. The most she will do is humor me temporarily and then say something wildly offensive and/or frustrating once I think I’ve gotten through to her. She asked me again today, “Why have you decided this is going to be so bad?” And I told her, “I haven’t decided it, I’ve lived it.” She didn’t have much to say after that, she just kind of… flounced. And I know it didn’t get through to her, because she came back later and basically told me that she still thinks I need to just “suck it up.” Because that’s how she functions.

I love her to death, and she’s always been the The Person That Understands. She was the sane one in the house I grew up in and now that I can’t even get support from her, I’m pretty lost. She’s not stupid, and she’s not a terrible person. It’s really hard to understand how she can be so dismissive and nasty. I didn’t know she had the capacity for this.

And now I have to write a four-page paper and draw a huge portrait with zero motivation and a ton of bricks on my head.
