here’s the thing tho
to the people messaging me over me not warming up to Mako
i know he has lived a tough life
i know he had to take up the roles of full on responsibility over the livelihood of Bolin and himself
i know he would have had to compromise his values many times in his life just to keep his small family alive
i do
and tbh with you, i do quite like Mako for electrocuting Amon the way he did, and I did feel something for him and Korra when they were running away
but here’s the thing
Instead of the show focussing of marvelling at how Mako survived these hardships, the relationship he has with his brother, the way he got trained to achieve the level of bending that he did
they turned him into a douche
There is no exploration of him as a survivor or any of these things
and like
I get that you can fuck up in a relationship, i do. I don’t hate Mako for having confusing feelings over who he likes, but I hate the way he acts regarding to these things, or the way he just brushed off Asami so damn quickly when it was convenient to him, OR WHEN HE PAID ATTENTION TO KORRA WHEN IT WAS CONVENIENT TO HIM
AND I HATE THAT HE HAS TO BE THE ONE TO MAKE ANYTHING WORK FOR KORRA
I WANT KORRA TO HAVE HER OWN, MOTIVATED ROOTED DRIVE HERE
